Perched close to Mozambique, the only two habited islands on Lake Malawi, Likoma and Chizumulu are a fusion of history, modernity and a true blend of Malawian cultures. The Islands’ rich history dates back to the late 1890s when early missionaries established a post on Likoma. To date, a Gothic Cathedral looms above the island with a statue of St Peter holding the keys to the Gates of Heaven.

Built in  1905, the Cathedral is one of largest in Central Africa. Likoma is easily accessed by air through an all weather international airport. Water vessels, with the MV Ilala as the most popular, also service the Ilands.
