Central Region is where the capital(Lilongwe) is located, it is centrally located and a common point of entry, through air travel. Some of the attractions in the central region include; Dzalanyama Forest Reserve is well known for birdlife watching. Dedza has Dedza Mountain and Dedza Pottery as some of its attractions. Dedza porttery is where artists and craftsmen can be viewed producing a variety of items found all over Malawi.
Dedza- Salima forest reserve, Thuma forest reserve Dowa Highlands Ncthisi forest reserve Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, is home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna, including a number of large mammal species Kasungu National Park, it is a large area of woodland, great for game viewing. Senga Bay is an hour and half drive from the airport, it has a range of hotels & lodges overlooking lovely beaches. It is also the place from which to gain access to the Maleri Island archipelago of the Lake Malawi National Park which is a 15-minute boat journey away. Dwangwa is the home of the sugar estate. The Chongoni Rock Art Area, contains stone age rock art and is a UNESCO World Heritage. Mua is a mission station, is home to a fascinating cultural museum.
