Lying on a high-elevated Kaning’ina hill slope, Mzuzu nature sanctuary boasts of a beautiful landscape with a recovering natural vegetation dominated by Brachystegia and Uapaca species. Its landscape descends into the beautiful Lunyangwa dam and offers a natural evergreen forest on the fringes of Mzuzu City.
Mammals include yellow baboon, vervet monkey, elephant shrews, bushpigs and occasional sighting of blue monkey and red duiker.
It is also rich in bird life and one may come across swallows, Lourie, European rollers, bohm’s bee-eater, redwing starlings and the eastern black headed Oriole to name a few, reptiles including green mamba, puff adder.
